Your Body Isn't a Problem to Be Optimized — And Here's Why That Changes Everything

Your Body Isn't a Problem to Be Optimized

I want to offer you something to sit with before we go any further.

Your body isn't a problem to optimize.

Say it again if you need to. Notice what happens inside when you do. Does something soften? Does something tighten? Does a part of you want to argue with it?

Whatever arises is good information. And that right there is actually the whole point of today's conversation.

The Culture We're Swimming In

We live in a world that is obsessed with optimizing the female body.

Botox. Ozempic. Red light masks. Hormone panels. Cold plunges. Cycle syncing protocols. The list goes on and it never really ends. And every time we think we've found the thing, the algorithm serves up something new that we're missing.

I am not against any of these tools individually. Some of them have genuinely supported me. But what I want to name is the energy underneath the reaching.

Because so many of us are not exploring these things from a place of curiosity or care. We're exploring them from a place of I am broken and I need to be fixed.

And that energy, that constant state of trying to manage, change, and optimize ourselves toward some moving target of "optimal," it creates a very particular kind of unsafety inside.

It is exhausting. And it erodes the trust we have in our own bodies.

This Is a Virgo Season Conversation

One of the shadow sides of Virgo energy is perfectionism.

And I think perfectionism shows up in healing spaces more than we realize. It looks like tracking every hormone level and spiraling when one number is off. It looks like the full moon ritual of listing every limiting belief you need to let go of. It looks like the relentless pursuit of a version of yourself that somehow never quite arrives.

I know this pattern intimately because I have lived it.

For years, I was approaching my body like a project. A work in progress. Something to be continually refined. And I can tell you from the inside of that experience, it doesn't feel like wellness. It feels like war.

What Somatic Psychology Taught Me

When I began studying somatic psychology, something fundamental shifted in the way I understood my body.

We are whole systems. The physical body, the emotional body, the mental body, the spiritual body. They are not separate. They are not in hierarchy. The mind is not smarter than the body. And when we let that hierarchy dissolve, something extraordinary happens. The intelligence of the body finally has room to come through.

There are alternative healing philosophies that see symptoms as signs of health.

I know. Stay with me here.

Your body's only real job is to keep you safe and to keep you alive. Which means that nothing your body does is random or accidental. The pain. The anxiety. The fatigue. The irregular cycle. These are not failures. They are messages.

Symptoms are your body working. Your body trying to protect you. Trying to communicate something that hasn't yet been heard.

Research on interoception supports this beautifully. Interoception is how the brain senses and interprets signals from inside the body. And what scientists have found is that these signals are not noise. They are ongoing, moment-to-moment communication between your body and your brain, shaping your emotions, your sense of safety, your nervous system state.

Your body is constantly speaking. She has always been speaking. She is just waiting to be listened to.

The Hormone Tracking Spiral

I'll get personal here because I think it matters.

When I first got my Mira hormone tracking device, I was checking my levels every single day. And if one day's reading wasn't in the optimal range, I would immediately spiral.

Why is my estrogen so high? Is my FSH off? Does this mean my ovarian reserve is low? What do I need to do?

Do you feel the energy of that? The fear underneath it? The frantic reaching for control?

Someone on my support team gently reflected something back to me that I really needed to hear. Maybe there is nothing wrong with your levels. Maybe they are right for you, for where you are, right now.

That reframe changed everything about how I use that device. I stopped checking every day. I stopped treating each reading as a verdict on my health. I began receiving the data as information — something to get curious about, not something to immediately fix.

Now the app is just one tool. A small piece of the pie. Not a barometer of my worth.

What Changes When We Stop Fighting

When we meet what is arising inside with openness, curiosity, and a neutral perspective, something remarkable begins to happen.

Psychological and emotional safety starts to build internally.

The body receives the signal that it is not under threat. That it does not need to keep escalating to be heard.

And as that safety builds, the body begins to open up even more. It shares insights, memories, wisdom, clear knowing that cannot be accessed through the thinking mind alone. The answers come from the soma. From the intelligence that goes far beyond what the mind can comprehend.

Think of the last time you had a cut. It healed itself. In its own perfect time and way. There is an intelligence inside you that already knows how to heal. It does not need to be forced. It does not need to be optimized. It needs time, space, and the right conditions to do what it already knows how to do.

The Invitation of Experimentation

If perfectionism has been the energy you've been bringing to your healing, I want to offer you a softer reframe.

Experimentation.

When we experiment, we are not assuming a certain outcome. We are not attaching our worth to the results. We are simply trying something, noticing what happens, and letting that be information.

This didn't work the way I hoped. What else might I try? Or maybe I just need to sit with this for a while.

That's it. That's the whole practice.

Some Questions to Sit With

As we move through the rest of Virgo season, I want to leave you with a few reflections to carry.

Do I see my body as a problem to be solved?

Do I treat myself like a project to be perfected?

When discomfort arises, do I immediately try to make it go away?

Am I open to learning the language of my body?

There are no right answers here. Just an invitation to notice. Because noticing is where it always begins.

A Final Thought

The most profound healing I have experienced has not come from changing or optimizing anything. It has come from giving my body the time, the space, and the gentleness it needed to do what it already knew how to do.

Your body is not the problem.

She never was.

She is the wisdom. She is the doorway. She is already doing her absolute best for you.

And maybe, just maybe, that is enough to begin with. 🌹
