๐ŸŒ‘ New Moon, New Rhythm: How to Rest, Reset & Reclaim Your Energy

Have you ever felt the urge to do less, only to be met with guilt, anxiety, or a nagging voice that says, โ€œYou donโ€™t have time to restโ€?

That feeling is more than just modern-day burnout โ€” itโ€™s a sign that your body and spirit are out of sync with your natural rhythm.

As a trauma-informed somatic practitioner and menstrual cycle coach, I work with women who are healing from overwhelm, anxiety, burnout, and a lifelong disconnection from their bodies. And Iโ€™ve come to realize: healing doesnโ€™t happen in hustle.

It happens in rhythm.

And thatโ€™s why the New Moon โ€” along with your bleeding time โ€” is such a powerful invitation to reset.

Why Rest Feels So Hard (Especially If Youโ€™re a Cycle Breaker)

Over the past week, Iโ€™ve had several conversations with women who, even amidst a holiday weekend, heard a quiet whisper inside saying:

โ€œYou need to slow down.โ€

But listening to that whisper isnโ€™t always easy.

We live in a culture built on patriarchal speed, where rest is seen as laziness and stillness as weakness. And if youโ€™re a trauma survivor or a cycle breaker โ€” someone whoโ€™s consciously trying to create a different kind of life than the one you were raised in โ€” the nervous system may still believe that slowing down isnโ€™t safe.

You might feel like you always need:

  • Another healing session

  • Another retreat

  • Another energy worker

  • Another โ€œfixโ€

But constant stimulation, even if itโ€™s healing, can become dysregulating.

A New Moon Metaphor: You Have to Digest Before You Can Receive More

Imagine youโ€™re at a friendโ€™s house. Sheโ€™s an incredible cook, and you eat a nourishing, delicious meal until you're absolutely full. That night, you go home to rest. The next morning, you're still a bit full, so you wait until your body is ready to eat again.

This is the same principle that applies to healing.

You donโ€™t need more input right now โ€” you need integration.

The New Moon, and your menstrual cycleโ€™s inner winter phase, offer you the biological and spiritual reset youโ€™ve been craving. Itโ€™s the pause between breaths. The space before new life begins. The moment when you clear out and come home.

My Personal Practice This New Moon (And What Shifted)

On Friday, I woke up to find that I had finally started my bleed โ€” later than usual, but right on time energetically. My first instinct was to power through one more day of tasks before heading out of town. But as I sat on my meditation cushion, I heard a voice:

โ€œYou donโ€™t have time to practice. You have too much to do.โ€

Instead of rushing, I got curious.
Is that me talking? Or is it the inner patriarchy?

Then, I heard another voice:

โ€œWhatโ€™s more important than anything is that you embody this work.โ€

That message brought me to tears.

I reflected on everything that had unfolded the past few weeks:

  • A creative and educational milestone

  • A big project moving into its next phase

  • New opportunities flowing in with ease

So I honored it. I took a bath. I cried. And I let myself rest.

The rest of the day? Everything fell into place.
I received help, things got done faster, and synchronicities appeared everywhere.

This is the magic of living in rhythm โ€” when you stop pushing, life flows to meet you.

New Moon Doโ€™s & Donโ€™ts for Nervous System Healing

Whether youโ€™re navigating burnout, recovering from trauma, or simply longing to feel like yourself again, here are a few gentle guidelines for the New Moon phase โ€” rooted in feminine wisdom and nervous system safety.

โŒ DONโ€™T:

  • Overbook your calendar with social plans or tasks

  • Rush into new projects, habits, or healing modalities too quickly

  • Obsess over the โ€œhowโ€ (how to pay, how to plan, how to figure it all out)

Thatโ€™s your masculine energy talking. And right now, itโ€™s not his turn.

โœ… DO:

  • Block out 1โ€“3 hours of solitude โ€” nap, soak, read, or sit under a tree

  • Reflect on whatโ€™s worked and what hasnโ€™t over the last cycle

  • Focus on how you want to feel and what you want to experience next

This is how you reconnect with your inner guidance, not by thinking your way there, but by making space to feel.
